Seed of the Dead Sweet Home Torrent tries to do better than its earlier version. Not only is the gameplay more ambitious, but the amount of post-patch indecency has increased. This follow-up gets raunchy, with enough naughty content to surprise even the most open-minded players. While the action stays inconsistent, the sequel is more ambitious and its attempts at adding variety are commendable. If you want digital immorality, Sweet Home offers some wonderfully immoral entertainment.

Story-wise, the game isn’t a direct follow-up to the first Seed of the Dead but keeps the same type of characters. Aya Kagano, who wears glasses, is the oldest of the group. Before the outbreak, she studied medicine, explaining her clinical view. Hikari Kondo, with a red bob, is a runner with a cheerful attitude that spreads positivity. There’s Kirara Suzune, a wealthy girl whose father runs a big company, and this time, there’s also a big fan of anime named Ichika Hazuki.

You’ll get to know each girl better through the game’s conversations, like visual novels but with 3D models instead of pictures like in the first game. However, the dialogue before, during, and after missions can often be shallow, without much interesting explanation or backstory. But between missions, you can chat and give gifts to each girl, adding some light dating sim-like elements. It’s quite simple, with the rich girl liking expensive things and Ichika preferring game-related items, but if you stick with it, you’ll see some character development as you build social relationships.

Of course, there are other things to do at home that compete for your attention. Pink orbs scattered around the stages represent collectible resources. You can sell them for money or invest them to expand your base and gain experience points. Surprisingly, there’s even an economy in Sweet Home, with certain materials having temporary extra value. You can also spend money at the arms dealer to improve your weapons and abilities, but you must reach a certain level before unlocking these boosts.

Surprisingly, the base actions in Sweet Home show the quality of a game with a much bigger budget. Although the headquarters isn’t as big as those in Ubisoft’s Division series, it feels lived-in, with a former subway station used as a safe place. There’s a lot of detail, from NPCs walking around and working at stalls to a really dirty bathroom, and a few fancy bedrooms that stand out against the rest of the world. But seeing colorful anime-style girls among plain-looking people and surroundings is always a bit strange.

Sweet Home throws a lot of enemies at you to make the game more intense. Like in Gearbox’s series, these moments throw players into chaos as your character tries to control the crowd. It’s a relief that there’s no friendly fire because, in tight spaces, the game becomes a chaotic mess.

Sometimes, control is taken away from you when you’re surrounded by enemies, leading to frantic button mashing. But that’s not the only problem. The balance of weapons often doesn’t make sense, with sniper rifles and shotguns being ineffective. Some rifles have unpredictable recoil. On the bright side, melee weapons are surprisingly enjoyable to use. Hopefully, TeamKRAMA won’t make the Hitachi Magic Wand less effective, as it’s invaluable for defending the girls.
