Mafia 3 Torrent is an action game developed by Hanger 13 and published by 2K. Mafia III takes the innovative turn of not being a game about the Mob, the Italian organized crime being merely a byproduct of its narrative centering around a young black Vietnam veteran striving to seize control of the city from the hitman who murdered his family. Drawing inspiration from a substantial blend of Saints Row and selecting elements from Ubisoft’s game catalog of the past decade, the outcome is an expansive urban environment where you reclaim territory by taking over others’ enterprises, eliminating competitors, and enlisting subordinates for your expanding domain.
Initially, the gameplay resembles the preceding two iterations, with a faux open world as a backdrop and a linear sequence of story missions. As Lincoln is introduced, events unfold more conventionally, one mission after another in sequence, with the liberty to drive away but no incentive to do so. However, after navigating through the initial sequence of narrative-driven missions and mistakenly assuming that this adheres to the traditional Mafia game formula, it descends languidly into a flaccid, bloated open city that nobody requested.
It aligns more with Saints Row III than anything else — a sprawling map with a continually expanding array of missions and side missions, some integral to the main storyline, others contributing additional influence in the city. As you seize more territory, control additional resources, and distribute the city’s enterprises among your assets. Remarkably vast in scale, I’ve devoted every available hour for a week, yet I haven’t completed the main quest. Regardless of other criticisms, one cannot accuse the developers of being frugal with content, even if it involves nearly identical content repeated incessantly.
While certain areas of Mafia iii Torrent are visually appealing, the overall aesthetic appears antiquated — and not in a 1960s context. Character visages seem at least five years outdated (excluding the teeth, which are remarkably well-rendered), while vehicles appear as if they’re constructed from plastic. It exudes a sense of imitation in every aspect, akin to a hastily produced imitation of a GTA knockoff that Ubisoft might have hastily produced between more substantial projects.
Every facet of Mafia 3 Torrent Magnet feels familiar, from its uninspiring open city with mission chains strung within to the mundane press-Y-to-steal-a-car routine, and even the inclusion of purple fleur-de-lis icons on the map without any discernible acknowledgment or remorse. Good grief, if you’re going to borrow so liberally from another game, refrain from using their distinctive logo as well!
As part of its design, the game endeavors to provide all the modern conveniences of a typical Ubisoft icon-driven adventure but encounters a narrative obstacle due to its chosen pre-computer, pre-mobile, pre-internet setting. In increasingly awkward and desperate narrative contortions, it attempts to rationalize surveillance systems through the use of wiretapping junction boxes, which ostensibly provide pinpointed enemy locations in an area via… I genuinely have no clue.
My best conjecture is that there’s an entire secondary layer to the story, where Lincoln Clay is, in fact, an unwitting android from the future, elucidating his ability to perceive enemy outlines through walls and identify hostile individuals in crowds through red highlights.
