Golf With Your Friends Torrent is essentially a re-creation of miniature golf. What this implies is you are presented with 11 distinct themed courses, each featuring 18 holes that will test your putting skills. Each course is distinct, ranging from a highly impractical (and frankly perilous) museum to a desert oasis complete with pyramids. This leads to a range of diverse challenges that will evaluate your golfing skills, along with your patience.

The other significant aspect that the title of the game underscores is the multiplayer functionality, allowing you to engage in golf with your buddies. There’s also an online mode, which is potentially the intended multiplayer experience. Regrettably, I was unable to find a single game to join, nor did I have any online friends with the game to test it out.

Instead, I had the opportunity to experience local multiplayer, which only supports one controller, resulting in some hot-seat action of passing around the controller. Despite the title suggesting playing with companions, the local multiplayer aspect of the game feels exaggerated compared to its practical functionality. That’s not to say it’s subpar, but it is surprisingly uncomplicated. This is by no means a deal-breaker, but it is disheartening.

In practice, multiplayer is truly no different from solo play; ultimately, it is just about who can achieve the best score (remember with golf, the lower the score, the better). This also decelerates the pace of action, waiting for each player to take their turn, which can feel like an eternity when you just need to make a small tap to pot your ball.

It’s not all your typical miniature golf action, as there are a couple of alternative modes that can be played to diversify the traditional golf play. One mode – Slam Dunk – substitutes the hole with a basketball net, requiring you to bounce the ball before the final shot so that it drops through the net. The other, as its namesake ‘Hockey’ suggests, is just that, where the hole is instead a hockey net complete with a cardboard goalie cut-out moving left to right in an attempt to block your shot. In this mode, your golf ball is also substituted by a hockey puck, although in practice, this makes little to no difference.

Regardless of the mode you choose, you can personalize the appearance of your ball/puck with different colors, as well as hats and motion trails that you randomly unlock after completing a full course. These are purely aesthetic, but my top hat ball looked rather refined. The graphics might be somewhat uncomplicated, but the courses still manage to emit a fun and playful style.
